Where Vineyards Tell a Story
Location: Prepotto, Colli Orientali del Friuli, Friuli Venezia Giulia
Products: Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, Schioppettino di Prepotto, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Other native and international varietals
About the Durì family and Antico Broilo:
Antico Broilo is a small, family-run organic winery, founded by the Durì family in Prepotto, in the eastern hills of Friuli. Today, siblings Giovanni, Patrizia, and Massimo continue the family tradition, tending the vineyards, managing the cellar, and crafting wines that reflect the unique character of their land.
The estate spans around six hectares of vineyards planted with native varieties like Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso and Schioppettino, alongside select international grapes. The Colli Orientali del Friuli are defined by a distinct terroir: ancient soils, a continental climate, and varying exposure, all of which help the vines produce concentrated and expressive fruit. Summers are warm and sunny, winters can be harsh, and these seasonal contrasts shape the elegance, structure, and acidity of their wines.
The Durì family emphasizes hands-on vineyard work and minimal intervention in the cellar. Grapes are hand-harvested, fermentation relies on indigenous yeasts, and wines are aged carefully to highlight both tradition and the terroir. Refosco, in particular, benefits from long aging in barrel and bottle, expressing its tannic structure, sapidity, and mineral character. Total production is small, focused on quality, with most wines sold locally or to select enthusiasts worldwide.
Life at Antico Broilo revolves around the vineyards and cellar. Each family member has their role: some work in the vineyards, others in the winery, and all share a passion for nurturing the land and crafting wines that tell the story of Friuli’s hills and the people who care for them.
“The winemaker has always been one of the central figures of the wine… everything starts from the countryside.”

Antico Broilo is located in the eastern hills of the Colli Orientali del Friuli, in the village of Prepotto — a small and distinctive area with a deep-rooted winemaking tradition. This corner of Friuli is defined by its own unique terroir, shaped by ancient soils, a continental climate, and native grape varieties that naturally lend themselves to producing structured, expressive wines. Warm summers and cold winters create strong seasonal contrasts, giving depth, freshness, and character to the vineyards.
The identity of this land is inseparable from the people who cultivate it. For the Durì family, the human factor is essential: generations have cared for these six hectares of vineyards with the same dedication and respect for nature, ensuring that the land continues to speak clearly through their wines and fully express its potential.
“We try to tell something about us through our terroir. Everything starts from the countryside — from the land and the people who work it.”
