About Martina and La Rocca:

La Rocca is a small family-run farm founded in the 1960s by Martina’s grandfather, who arrived as a sharecropper before managing to buy the land and transform it into the family estate. Today Martina represents the third generation, working alongside her father, uncle, mother, and her partner Francesco. Together, they care for the vineyards, olive groves, the cellar, and hospitality.
The farm lies in the heart of Chianti Classico, in the municipality of Castellina in Chianti—an area defined by a unique terroir, with a distinct microclimate and soils that support the production of high-quality wines and extra virgin olive oil. Mild summers and at times harsh winters help give the products their character.
Since the 1960s, the family has been producing wine and extra virgin olive oil. Their two Chianti Classico wines—a base wine and a Riserva—follow the traditional family blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Canaiolo, respecting both local and family tradition. The Riserva is aged in oak and made from the estate’s oldest vineyards, some more than forty years old. Total production is about 7,000 bottles per year, most of which are sold locally.
They also produce a Super Tuscan made from 100% Merlot, sourced from a single high-altitude vineyard with ideal exposure. This limited-production wine is made in just 400–500 bottles per year.
Their extra virgin olive oil is harvested entirely by hand. Early picking and local Tuscan olive varieties—such as Moraiolo, Frantoio, and Morcaio—give the oil a fragrant profile with a natural spicy and slightly bitter finish.
Life at La Rocca begins early each morning: Martina’s father and uncle head out with the tractor to work in the vineyards, Francesco dedicates himself to the cellar, and her mother cooks for the family and guests while managing the farmhouse. A cherished daily ritual is sharing wine at the table—her mother tosses the empty flask out the window to her father, who brings it down to the cellar to refill.

About Martina’s land:

La Rocca lies in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, within the municipality of Castellina in Chianti. This is a small and unique area of Tuscany, renowned for its own distinctive terroir — a combination of microclimate, soil, and local plant varieties that naturally supports the production of high-quality wines and extra virgin olive oil. Summers are mild, winters can be harsh, and these seasonal contrasts shape the character of everything grown here.
The territory’s identity is deeply connected to the land itself and to the people who cultivate it. For Martina and her family, the human factor is essential: generations have cared for the vineyards and olive trees with the same dedication, ensuring that the land continues to express its full potential.

“Chianti is undoubtedly a unique area because we have our own microclimate that guarantees excellent quality products. We have mild summers and sometimes very harsh winters… Chianti Classico has its own terroir — a combination of microclimate, soil, and plant varieties, all combined with the human factor.”
