San Lurins
About the winery and family:

Azienda Agricola San Lurins is a small, family-grown organic estate in San Lorenzo Isontino, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, with roots stretching back to 1874, when the Pecorari family first acquired land here and began mixed farming that included vines, cereals, and livestock. Production of the estate’s own wine stopped in the 1970s due to economic pressures, but the family continued growing grapes, supplying them locally while nurturing the vineyards. In 2014, Marco Pecorari — inspired by his heritage and passionate about organic viticulture — revived winemaking at San Lurins, bottling his first sparkling Malvasia Istriana using traditional methods and minimal intervention.

Marco builds on generations of agricultural knowledge, farming organically since the late 1990s and focusing on careful vineyard care, old-vine Malvasia Istriana, and expressive native varieties like Ribolla Gialla. His approach emphasizes respect for the vines, soil, and natural processes, producing wines with personality and a strong sense of place, from gently refermented Malvasia to lively ancestral-style Ribolla Gialla.

About the land around San Lurins:
San Lurins lies in San Lorenzo Isontino, in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, where the Adriatic Sea and the Julian Alps shape a mild, breezy climate with strong day-to-night temperature shifts. These conditions help grapes ripen slowly, developing fresh aromatics and balanced acidity — ideal for expressive wines.

Alluvial clay, pebbles, and limestone soils provide good drainage and mineral character, supporting the estate’s organic vineyards and long-standing varieties such as Malvasia Istriana, deeply rooted in the family’s history.

“Our vineyards benefit from breezes from the Adriatic and protection from the Julian Alps, allowing the grapes to express their full character.”
